Inspirational Balance

Quarters Place, Halswell

This spacious and refined home of 390m2 achieves an inspirational balance between clean, modern lines and timeless natural features.  On the exterior the Oxford stone buttresses, with their enduring solidity, offset the streamlined cedar cladding. While the interior is crisp and uncluttered, oak flooring and the abundance of natural light add inviting warmth. There is a seamless flow from the living areas to the covered outdoor entertaining area and elegantly landscaped, expansive section.

The architect has employed clever design features to connect the different parts of the home. A stylish floating oak staircase connects the two levels and a glass-covered bridge links the triple garage and gamesroom with the second storey of the main house. The stairwell was technically challenging to finish to such a high standard, as was the exposed concrete wall in the main living room downstairs, which was added to the design once construction was underway.

One of the most stunning features of the house is a light-filled void above the dining area, allowing the eye to soar from the ground floor to the full height of the second storey ceiling above.

Modern Masterpiece

Quarry Hill, Kennedys Bush

Building a large single storey home on a sloping site is an ambitious challenge and one we loved taking on.

Extensive work was required to prepare the site for building and the complexity of the project necessitated a unique approach of working from the back to the front of the site. The result is an impressive 360m2 home nestled in curved retaining walls that seems to grow out of the contours of the hill.

This modern home features structural steel, a plaster finish and an abundance of glass to maximise sun and views. Wide timber overhangs define the home and tie in with the timber garage door. The garage sits adjacent to the house and is accessed via a sweeping driveway.

Inside, timber ceilings and flooring complement the interior’s sharp, clean lines, which are achieved through the use of negative and seamless detailing.

Tastefully Timeless

Jacksons Rd, Fendalton

One of the most distinctive features of this stately weatherboard home is the bell-shaped upper storey which requires considerable skill to achieve. The timber shingles also showcase the craftsmanship more commonly associated with a bygone era.

Although not evident now, a particular challenge of this rebuild was the execution of the extremely deep 18 metre pile foundations specified by the engineer.

This traditional-styled home is flanked on each end by a robust chimney and sits proudly adjacent to a sizeable swimming pool.

The house contains three bedrooms, two bathrooms and two living spaces, with high ceilings and wide panelled hallways adding a sense of space and grandeur to the interior. Careful attention to detail is apparent everywhere, from the oak ceiling beams to the detailed timber windows. The result is an aesthetically pleasing tribute to the original home that is sure to stand the test of time.
